Geographic Location

Doumen County in Guangdong is located at the southern end of the Pearl River Delta, nearly where the east longitude 113°joins the north latitude 225°.

Climate:

Doumen County is in the subtropical monsoon region, where summer is longer than winter without intense heat in summer and severe cold in winter. The rainy season comes accompanied by the hot season, with clearly demarcated wet season from April to September and dry season from October to next March. Its rainfall is abundant with an annual amount ranging from 1,898 mm to 2,293 mm. Its annual average temperature keeps at 21.8°C; the hottest month is in July with the highest temperature at 33°C, while the coldest month is in April with the lowest temperature at 5°C. Occasionally typhoon affects this region, twice a year with a two-day duration each time; its max. wind-force reaches about grade-10.

Geologic Conditions:

According to the Explanatory Introduction to the Map of the Earthquake Intensity Delimitation in Yue-Gui-Xiang Provinces (or Region) drawn by the Guangdong Earthquake Research Institute (1983), Zhuhai (including Doumen County) is located in the region of Earthquake Basic Intensity VII. But in recent 50 years, there have been only three slight shocks without any destruction and damage record.

Hydrologic Conditions:

Doumen County lies at the estuary of Xijiang, where streams and brooks crisscross. It is rich in fresh water resources.

The Planning for the Development Zone

In 1999, the Xinqing and the Baijiao High-tech Industry Gardens, whose area exceeds 6,000 mu each, were founded by the Municipal Government of Zhuhai. The planning of the zone is advanced, the work of three "throughs" and one level has been finished, and some businesses have moved into the zone one after another. Approved as a project, the Ri-ji-cheng Industrial Zone is to be set up beside the Huangyang Avenue, Doumen Town, Doumen County, with a total area of 980 mu, 65 mu of which has been levelled. A few foreign-funded enterprises have gone to operation normally in the zone.
